Jonathan SheldonA music graduate of Corpus Christi Cambridge in 1980, Jonathan has sustained keen interest and enthusiasm as an amateur musicianin many parts of the country. His choral conducting experience includes training with George Hurst, Simon Halsey and Michael Rose. Locally , his commitments include successful seven years as MD of the Wellingborough Orpheus Choir. He recently completed a six month course with the Association of British Choral Conductors. He brings a broad personal experience to his music making including careers in the Church of England, as company director of a regional sales and marketing business and most recently as a secondary school teacher in Northampton.
Since 2008, when Jonathan was appointed Musical Director, Camerata has flourished and welcomed a number of new members. In rehearsal, Jonathan balances a lightness of touch with hard work that helps the choir learn new music quicker than they expect! Our audiences tell us that the choir has gained in confidence and that they enjoy the varied and ambitious programmes presented by Camerata under Jonathan’s direction. We are grateful for the talented support of young singing graduates and our own locally grown orchestra for special occasions. During these two years, programmes have included Poulenc’s Gloria, Britten Ceremony of Carols and Rejoice in the Lamb, Haydn’s Creation, Bach’s St John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, together with a broad range of smaller pieces ranging from the Elizabethan age to the present day.
